Key Takeaways
- A trailer for an alleged Lego James Bond game has appeared online.
- This trailer was reportedly created as a pitch to The Lego Group for a possible green light.
- Lego reportedly scrapped the idea because James Bond was far too violent and sexually suggestive to make it into a Lego game.
Lego has had many crossovers with popular franchises in the past, including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Marvel, Pirates of the Caribbean (the best), DC and many more. If it’s a hugely famous, popular IP, then there’s a good chance there’s a Lego game about it, although one franchise that Lego has never come close to in video game form is James Bond.
Lego has a physical set for James Bond in the Aston Martin DB5, but it has never been tempted to turn the franchise into a video game. What appears to be a trailer for a canceled Lego James Bond game has now surfaced online, as it appears developer Traveller’s Tales wanted to use the world’s most famous spy in its own video game.
James Bond canceled the Lego game trailer due to leaks
This trailer was recently shared to the Legogaming subreddit by user Kecskecske6, and is a fairly rough selection of clips from presumably in-game cutscenes, all with that iconic James Bond theme tune playing over the top. We don’t know exactly how many movies this game would have included, although there are scenes based on the likes of A View To A Kill and Live and Let Die.
As for why this game was canceled, Legogaming subreddit mod LEGOGameMuseum apparently has the answer. In the Reddit post they explain that this was an idea for a full James Bond game that was scrapped, and that this trailer was produced as a potential pitch for The Lego Group to potentially greenlight. It would have been created during Lego Dimensions’ final year in 2016, when many at Travelers Tale knew the game would no longer be supported.
Unfortunately, it was The Lego Group themselves who allegedly scrapped the idea of this game, as they felt the James Bond IP was far too violent and sexually charged to be adapted into a Lego game. That was in 2016, though, and with collaborations like Lego Horizon Adventures being made, it makes you wonder if the idea could be revisited and adapted to be more family-friendly.
Either way, it’s a bit disappointing to see a Lego James Bond game scrapped, but at least James Bond fans will be able to eat their fill pretty soon, as Hitman developer IO Interactive has been working on a game of its own for a while now on the spy in the making. some time. We haven’t seen much of it yet, although a reveal could happen soon with The Game Awards.
